Manny Pacquiao Loses WBO World Welterweight
Manny Pacquiao was beaten by Jeff Horn in one of boxing’s greatest upsets. Horn produced one of the biggest upsets in Australian boxing history with a unanimous points victory over Pacquiao. The fight was very entertaining although it ended in another controversial decision. Despite the controversy, Pacquiao said he respects the judges’ decision. Many spectators and commentators were stunned with the outcome. Although Horn gave an amazing effort the commentators on TV and online had Pacquiao as the winner. The well-known boxer landed many more punches. The final scores resulted in 117-111; the other two were both 115-113.
Some Commentators Surprised Horn Showed Up for Round 10
Round 9 saw Pacquiao land some regular shots while Horn looked as though he had almost nothing left and the right side of his face was battered and bloody. The ref wanted to stop the fight. He told Horn, in the corner, that he must show something in Round 10 or the fight is over. In the next round Horn was actually helped by his opponent who looked tired from the blows he threw in the previous round. Round 11 Horn looked steadier on his feet. However, most commentators felt Horn was well behind on the cards and had only three minutes to land a knockout punch.
Despite his loss, it is reported that Pacquiao made $10 million for his efforts while Horn was guaranteed $500,000. It was projected that Horn would make closer to $1 million due to bonuses from ticket sales. Horn’s pay for the night isn’t bad considering he went into the fight as a +450 underdog.
